Nice cleaner but be warned, be careful with the patches you run. If they are to thick this can get stuck... Ask me how I know. 😅 This is a replacement after I man handled my first one and kinked up the cable. Once you find the right patch this thing is awesome. Highly recommend over cleaning rods.

While this Patriot Series kit is caliber-specific, if you get one for a rifle with the 8/32" cable, you can pretty much make it multi-caliber with only a few additional pieces.Otis makes a big and small patch loop. The small patch loop will work for 5.56/.22 while the big loop will work for 9mm/45 and .308/7.62 - so buy whatever doesn't come with your kit.The short Otis cable is nice to have for a pistol (easier to handle) but not mandatory, you can run a 36" cable through a Glock barrel if need be, but you'll be hard pressed to find a better tool than the Glock barrel tool with a 12 gauge patch stuck through its built-in loop soaked with Boretech C4. Just run that back/forth through your Glock barrel a few times, repeat with a few more patches and it will be clean in no time. For 12 gauge, Otis used to have this giant patch loop that fits over a standard 8/32" cable end. I see in their current 12 gauge kits they include a slimmed down giant patch loop that fits in the same cables. Either way, buy one of these for 410/20 and 12 gauge (or whatever gauge you shoot) with the rubber bushing and follow the instructions. The Patriot kit for 5.56/.223 MSR's includes cleaning rods and the 5.56 chamber brush already, so all I did was throw in a 9mm bore brush, .30 cal bore brush, 12 gauge bore brush, .30 cal bore brush, big patch loop, 12 gauge loop and bushing, some extra patches and had a multi-caliber kit.Otis also has a 3-gun kit which I have, but threw in a .30 cal bore brush to make it a 4-gun kit. Haha. I also removed all of the attachments from the built-in tray and threw them in individual zip locs. That try takes up way too much room.I used to solely use Otis kits for cleaning, and this went on for more than a decade until I bought a borescope and saw how poorly they kept my bores clean. I have switched to carbon fiber cleaning rods with push jags and and Boretech cleaning products. I can get a bore factory-clean without using a single bore brush to scrub the rings/grooves.However, Otis is still my go-to cleaning kit for field expedient methods of cleaning or when I need a quick touch-up cleaning/lube/preservation without breaking out my whole table top cleaning setup. This Patriot Series kit includes everything you'd need for an AR15 or .223/5.56 modern sporting rifle. It has the chamber brush, 3 rods w/ T-handle, as well as a plastic t-handle for the cable, etc...The secret to keeping an AR15/MSR functioning is to keep that chamber clean. When hard carbon deposits or gunk starts collecting, it can cause failures to extract. This is regardless if you're direct impingement, piston-driven, or using some uber high speed low drag HK416/SCAR setup - that 5.56/.223 chamber needs to be kept clean. Using brass-cased ammo will help the most, but for some that want to use the polymer-coated steel cased stuff, keeping the chamber clean is key. So the Otis kits come in handy due to the small size of the kit and versatility in the field. The 3" Otis patches are overkill for .223/5.56, you want to run the 2" Otis patches and just follow the instructions when folding. It's not a big deal once you get the hang of it, and I often use the round patches 2-3 times before I toss them as the cotton tends to stretch/shred.For some reason, Otis now includes a .25 cal brush for 5.56. I thought it was a mistake until I rotated the brush and saw the engraving for both .25 and 5.56 on the same brush. I always felt their .22 brushes were "loose" in 5.56 barrel but like I said, I don't really run bore brushes anymore thanks to Boretech especially with chrome lined bores. But for a field kit, the Patriot series is a great foundation.
