Otakar Sevcik: The Essential Sevcik; a Critical Collection of the Most Important Exercises for Violin Technique

The content of this book is fantastic, there are so many different exercises it probably takes years to get through all of them, since there are so many variations to each one.Unfortunately, there is no introduction on how to best use this book like you have with Flesch so the amount of exercises can be pretty overwhelming.But the one thing, that really bugs me about this book is, that you have to apply a lot of force to this book in order to keep the pages open when trying to play from it. This damages the book and I don't know, how long is will take until it falls apart. A coil binding would probably work a lot better for this, though it won't look as good on the shelf. But thats not where it is supposed to be anyways.

Any teacher who does not want to miss a single aspect of violin technique when teaching a student should have this book. Expert players often take many things for granted in explaining technique. With Sevcik one need not worry that any element has been skipped. I would call this a book on violin "theory."
